- To glide without a sound in a limestone nature with white sand bottoms is like a dream!

Earlier this year we electrified an old fishing boat for The Arctic Hideaway. We have asked the CEO, Håvard Lund, if he could describe how it has been to use an electric boat for his exotic tourism business:

I reached out to Green Waves after seeing a video of an electric boat in the Trondheim fjord. I drooled after the GW 601, but quickly realized that cost and needs didn’t match.

The Arctic Hideaway is a accommodation with 10 beds for rent west of Bodø. Fleinvær is a protected group of islands with 350 islets and reefs, where it’s beautiful to drive boats even if the heavy waves are messy on the outside.

Green Waves suggested to help me find a hull, which they did on the South Coast the winter of 2021. Reusing a fiberglass hull from 1980 felt, and was right for me. Green Waves installed a 7,5kW motor with a battery pack and transported the boat north on a car in July of 2021.

The follow-up was extremely good. I could send videos to the Technical Manager Jakob and he would answer immediately. The only weakness for now is the manual punching of battery level. It feels safer that this would work automatically with a measurement.

But that does not take the joy out of the most important thing; the use of the electric boat. To glide without a sound in a limestone nature with white sand bottoms is like a dream! The birds let you come closer, the mackerel don't care and in Feburary it's 17m sight straight to the bottom of the sea. The boat will stay out all winter and we can’t wait!

The boat that is electrified is docked in the photo, and will be out all year around. Photo: The Arctic Hideaway.
